Wonderful

The jungle setting was superb. Very atmospheric, with lovely ponds and grottoes. The facilities were excellent - the spa, the pools, the restaurant and bar were terrific.

I wasn't expecting so many steps - and large, uneven steps as well. It could be a bit challenging for people with some mobility issues. The rooms are also a little tired and could do with a refresh.

Paradise and amazing spa facility

Breakfast was a good offer

We both had items stolen from our room ! After shave and undies !! The pillows were also not fantastic but the bed was really comfy. the setting is a paradise but the food could be worked on . We both. loved the river private dinner ( although food could be improved ) Don’t stay here if you don’t want to tackle lots of stairs which we didn’t mind . Overall a great stay

Gorgeous hotel but needs renovation

The building is historic and it feels like you re in a Balinese temple. There s everything, temples, waterfall, sculptures, greenery. It is a beautiful building

It needs renovation. The pool has some tiles that are removed, bathroom in the room was very dated. Furniture in the room is gorgeous and full of carvings but it a also worn out and there were termites

The hotel's common areas and gardens are amazing, you really feel in a separate place once you enter the hotel.

Some details inside the room were a bit left behind in terms of maintenance.

Lovely location

The gardens and the view are stunning and relaxing. Staff are all friendly.

The main pool needs work as a number of tiles have fallen off. The bathroom needs up dating as the bath tub is difficult to access and water flowes across and down aroundvthe toilet making it dangerous.

Great Outlook and Lication

Loved the location. Not right in the centre of very busy Ubud, but close enough to wake in and out. Beautiful outlook amongst the trees and looking down at the river. Loved the balcony with this stunning view.

Bathrooms very dated and very old bedding and towels. Greeting at checkin was non existent and given no information about the hotel and facilities

If the rooms would be taken care of, Tjampuhan would be paradise.

Our experience with staff and the hotel are very positive; everyone was very helpful, they work their asses of to make all guest comfortable. The overall feel is luxury and peace. It's such a beautiful place, it amazed me every single time. When entering the hotel, it is truly breathtaking. The view is incredible, all smiles from the staff and everything looks clean and well organized. Breakfast was good, we especially loved the egg station. Also loved the fresh juice and fruit. The staff did everything to make our stay comfortable (explain the safe, bring towels, make small talk, arrange transport, etc.)

After check-in we got a very spacious room named Bukit, near reception. After a few minutes alone in the room, we heard something crawling on the ceiling above us. We listened for a while and it became obvious to us that there was some kind of animal living in between our and the above apartment, suspecting birds. We went to reception and asked what it could be and they said it's rats. We were shocked and they offered to bring a trap. We declined and said we didn't want rats above us, or anywhere near us for that matter. They said multiple times the rats couldn't get into the room. It was obvious we felt very uncomfortable and because of that they offered another room. We moved to Arie Smith, which was extremely damp and smelly, but at least there were no crawling sounds. We had breakfast four times, and eventually it wasn't very diverse; mostly warm food (more dinner than breakfast for European standards). The rooms are terribly outdated, they smell intensely of mold. Our shower curtain was too short, cabinet doors were broken, very hard beds and pillows, bad Wi-Fi in the room, that kinda stuff.

Old style Ubud spa is the grand old dame of Ubud.

Set in beautiful surroundings this original Ubud spa (opened 1928) still stands up well. Service was fantastic and meals were great. It is close to Ubud town (a 1 km walk to the centre of town). Also very near the start of the Champuhan Ridge walk which made a great start to our day a number of times.

Some people will have problems with the many stairs in this hotel that cascades down the ravine to the river (they didn't worry us). If so ask for a room up at reception level. You will still need the climb quite a few stairs though to reach the pool

Comfortable, charming and beautiful resort - we loved it!

The location is great - only 15 minutes walk to the heart of shopping in Ubud. I believe the hotel also offers a shuttle service to the Main Street. We loved the comfortable bed, the traditional style of the hotel and the beautiful rooms, and the truly lovely and helpful staff. The breakfast and meals were delicious. In particular we were thrilled we had booked ahead for Dinner on the Bridge. It is a private dinner just for two and this is available to one couple only each night. The service was superb with a dedicated waiter, the bridge was beautifully decorated with lots of flower petals and a myriad of candles and little lights, and the feast of four courses (we had the Western menu) was truly delicious for a very reasonable price. It was a very lovely stay and we heartily recommend staying here.

Beautiful green oasis with a calming spirit, great staff and good massages.

The best thing about this hotel is the surrounding nature. All the rooms face towards a river, so you hear the river passing by. Everything is green around you. It has a very calming spirit. All the stress & noise from the city are far away. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the spa & massages a lot. The massages are done on a blacony facing the river, so you hear the nature around you. Very relaxing. We absolutly loved it. We stayed in Banyan 3 and we did not mind the stairs. I think other guests might have been staying somewehere else with more stairs? The room was big enough for us, maybe the bathrooms need some renovation, but we did not really mind it. We also got our clothes cleaned for a fair price. They also offered food and massages during Nyepi day, which we truly thankful for. All in all I would totally recommend this hotel and would come back!

I think they could improve the breakfast. We stayed for 1 week and after a few days it got repetitive. Some juices were fresh, some (like orange) was made out of powder. All in all we still enjoyed the breakfast. They also have an egg station where they make the eggs to your liking. We also ate dinner here during Nyepi day. They advertised it like a menu, so we were expecting more of a restaurant course by course experience. But in reality it was more of a canteen experience, meaning they had trays with food that you could just take from. The food was balinese and yummy. There is a lot of traffic in Ubud, so grabing a taxi to go to Ubud, you could run into traffic, so usually we walked (15 mins) and took a taxi back. An older Australian that stayed here many times over the years told us that the hotel used to have a transfer to Ubud, but they had to stop it because of the traffic. Can't really blame them, as we tourists created this.

Hotel Tjampuhan as romantic as we remembered

The setting of this hotel, the first in Ubud dating back to 1928, cannot be beat. Grounds are beautiful, both landscaping and nature. Villas are stacked on the sides of a steep ravine and the Ayung River roars down below. We returned after 36 years for a romantic visit. Still very romantic

Hotel needs more attention and care, which hopefully it will get after tourism returns to pre-pandemic levels. Huge potential here with proper maintenance.

Fantastic

Beautiful hotel with excellent staff, the ladies on reception really couldnt do enough for us we would definitely stay again!

If I could make one complaint it would be the baby lizard that appeared in our room. But we are in bali after all this can not be helped. There is nothing negative to say about the hotel and staff
